Duties of Importers

Only Representatives can take on some of the REACH obligations for importers, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing for you to do.  Amongst other duties, it will still be your responsibility to ensure that your product has the correct Classification and Labelling (CLP), any of its constituents are notified to the CLP inventory (if applicable), the SDS is up-to-date and for hazardous mixtures (classified according to their health or physical effects) a notification is made to the NPIC, the Poisons Information Centre of Ireland.

For the future ECHA are developing a portal which is intended to allow harmonisation of notifications across member states. You can currently use the portal to prepare dossiers (PCN format) and create UFIs, but notifications still need to be done at national level.
